My MacBook Pro will no longer recognize my Office Jet 6600 printer. I tried to redownload the printer drivers and the firmware. Twice. In the printer driver download, I could update everything but the actual printer itself - that selection was grayed out. In the firmware, the printer didn't even show up.
I've been having a lot of problems with this printer overall. First it stopped scanning, which is why I also tried to redownload the driver. Then the printer itself stopped printing.
One thing I noticed earlier in this process was that I had two printers showing up - Officejet and HP Officejet - in the menu. the HP Officejet didn't print but the Officejet did. So I went into my computer's system preferences and deleted the HP Officejet. Then everything stopped working. Obviously I did something wrong there but I can't figure out how to activate the printer again.
As I said, downloading the printer driver again resulted in the software for the printer itself being grayed out in the menu.
I can still make xerox copies.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Diane

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I read your post and understand that you have an HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer and it stopped to scan and print. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
- Try to make a copy from the printer. If the copy is successful then the printer hardware should be okay. and you may proceed with the further troubleshooting steps.
Let us uninstall the existing printer drivers first by following the steps from this link: http://hp.care/2gFzkl6
Then, let us reset the printing system in Mac OS by following the steps from this video: http://hp.care/2f9ksug
Once you have performed the above tasks, please download and install the printer drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2gFDg5v
This should make the printer to work. Feel free to let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
