Microsoft Windows 11

My Officejet Pro 8610 error code 0xc19a0015, "The  printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed" which persists after hard reset of the printer (removing cartridges, unplugging and restarting), and cleaning and reinserting the printhead.  No detectable damage to printhead, or contacts.  I replaced the printerhead 20 months ago and everything was printing fine until now. No ink appears on the paper.

Hi @BonBon462,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error 0xc19a0015 on your HP Officejet Pro 8610, “The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed”, typically points to a printhead detection failure, even if the printhead looks fine physically. Since you've already tried a hard reset and cleaning, here are the steps to go further:

1. Perform a Full Power Reset

Even if you've done a basic reset, try this extended version:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  • Turn the printer back on.

2. Remove and Reinstall the Printhead

HP recommends this carefully:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Lift the printhead latch and gently remove the printhead.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the carriage using a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Let everything dry for 5–10 minutes.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges.
  • Close the latch and access door.

3. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause detection issues:

  • Connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
  • On the control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
