HP ENVY 7640 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi!

I've been having a problem with my printer for a few months at least. When I go to print a document (often a MS Word doc, but also Gmails, online web docs such as bank statements, etc), there is a long lag time before the doc prints, ranging from 3-5 minutes if not longer. However this is an improvement, believe it or not, from several months ago when the doc would not print at all.

I tried uninstalling the driver and then downloading it and re-installing the driver. I don't know what else to try.

My printer details:

Serial number:

[edited]

Model number:

E4W43A

I have had this printer for about 2 yrs, at least, and up until a few months ago -- never experienced this problem and never had any problems whatsoever with all of the various functions of this printer incl. faxing, copying & printing.

My O/S is Windows 7, 64 bit.

My processor is an HP ProDesk.  Model #: HP ProDesk 400 G1 MT (Microtower) purchased in July, 2015. I just upgraded my memory from the installed 4GB to 8GB last week.

I'd appreciate if you have any ideas as to what may be the cause and any possible solutions or troubleshooting steps. I've tried the installed HP troubleshooting program on my PC and find it has never been helped or resolved this prob.

Hi @humerus

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

How is the printer connected to the PC, USB or Wireless?

Check the connections.

Restart the network devices

  1. Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
  4. Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
  5. Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue (Skip if tried)

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Ty printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
