Designjet Z3200
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi there. after various software problems trying to get my Z3200 to print, it now fails to initialise when I switch on. (Egg timer icon freezes at about 50%.) I read on this forum somewhere that it would be worth removing printheads, inks etc, and trying again, but I'm not sure how to access the printheads when the machine is not switching on properly. I'd be grateful for any advice.

Many thanks,

CumbrianKate

Hello @CumbrianKate

Around 50% the printer should start the initialization of main printing components, so is the printer showing you an specific error code?

Isolating the printer is a great idea however the carriage can be capped in the service station where you cannot get access to remove the printheads, the only possible way is when the printer is off and the carriage is not capped by service station otherwise only a technician can uncapped them.

Hi Harry and thank you for responding.

When I start up the Z3200 it gets to about 75% and then the screen says 'Initialising, please wait...' and shows the egg timer icon. But the icon is frozen, and nothing more happens, even after a day of being left on.

I was only interested in checking the printheads as someone suggested they might be faulty and are causing the printer to fail to start-up., but I don't think that could be the case.

If you have any suggestions on how I could proceed, to 'bump' it into action, I'd be most grateful. Or do I need an engineer to look at it?

Many thanks.

Hello @CumbrianKate

Around 75% is when the carriage should initializes, in your case what I will suggest first because the printer gets stuck is to reseat the formatter of the printer, unplug the power cable, remove the formatter if the contacts are dusty clean them and then reinstall it and plug the power cable back in and if the same issue happens then to look for a certified engineer to check what can be causing the issue.
