To fix, I deleted the device in Ctrl Panel, unplugged and replugged back in the printer and the modem and then tried to reinstalled. Using the HP website, it found my printer and everything seemed hunky dory.

However, everytime I try to set it up in Control Panel (ie, Add Device), all it can find is the below device:

Direct-92-HP ENVY 4520 Series

I am at my wit's end. Anything you can do to help would be great.

Thx

Sounds like WiFi Direct is switched on.  Weird that it has picked up your computer if you don't own the printer.

Normally the fix is just go to the printer and toggle OFF the WiFi Direct option.

Take a look to see if the not-my-printer is lurking in Device Manager and / or Devices and Printers - if you find the entry, remove it.

** Printer Software – Lurking in the Device Manager **

Check / Verify:  If the printer is still lurking in the Device Manager, remove it.

Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager

Expand category Printers

If any unwanted printer name or “Unknown Device” is listed,

Right-Click on the printer / device > Uninstall

Expand category Imaging Devices

If any unwanted printer name or “Unknown Device” is listed,

Right-Click on the printer / device > Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in

** Printer Drivers – Lurking in Devices and Printers **

Check / Verify:  If the printer drivers are still lurking in Devices and Printers, remove driver(s) related to the printer.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Left-Click on any unwanted Printer found in the Printers list

Clicking on a printer, displays options along the ribbon (near the top of the Devices and Printers window)

Click Print Server Properties > tab Drivers

Click on Driver(s) in list, select Remove > OK to exit menu

Back in Devices and Printers > Right-Click on the printer > Remove Device

Restart the computer and log in

If the entry comes back, I would guess you do not have your network secured and that your neighbor's printer is connecting to your computer.  What?  WiFi Direct is wireless that does not use a router - the connection is made directly from the printer using that printer's wifi card.  The printer connects to the computer in the vicinity that allows the connection.   ??

Thx for your help. Nothing worked. I had to call HP and let one of their Techs do his magic. Took about a half hour.

He took over my computer and went thru lots and lots of files, uninstalls, downloads, etc. He was too fast for me.

Ah, that's OK.   It is not unusual for an IT person to work a problem "fast and furious".  It is not intended to confuse you; usually the speed is just a consequence of trying, discarding, and moving on.

Sometimes, the very best operators will tell you what they have done to help you understand what has happened and what was done to fix the issue.  "A teaching moment."

Happy Printing!
