I was printing a 3 page fact sheet. After first page printer showed paper jam, there was no paper jam. After removing and replacing the paper tray the 2nd page printed. The jam error stay on. I pushed the power button and for 6 hours message said Shutting down. I then pulled the power cord out of outlet. When I replugged it a nasty message came on about inappropriate shut down. I've printed 18 pages and have had 5 error messages.

Hi @cor24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with several issues with your HP 7600 printer. Let's break them down and see what steps you can take to address each one.

Paper Jam Error: Even if there doesn't appear to be any paper jammed, sometimes sensors can get tripped erroneously. Try the following steps to clear the paper jam error:

  • Open all access doors and trays and carefully inspect for any small pieces of paper stuck inside.
  • Use a flashlight if needed to check for any tiny shreds of paper that might be blocking a sensor.
  • Gently remove any paper you find.
  • If there's a specific paper path causing the error, try cleaning the rollers and the paper path with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Close all doors and trays properly before attempting to print again.

Won't Power Off: If your printer gets stuck during the shutdown process, it could be due to various reasons, including firmware glitches or hardware issues. Since you've already experienced a prolonged shutdown attempt, try these steps:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source and let it sit for a few minutes. This can sometimes reset the internal components.
  • Plug the printer back in and try to power it on again. If it powers on successfully, try printing a test page to see if the issue persists.
  • If the problem continues, you may need to perform a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to do this.

Printing on Both Sides of Paper (Duplex Printing): If your printer isn't automatically printing on both sides of the paper as expected, you may need to check the printer settings and make sure duplex printing is enabled. Here's what you can do:

  • Open the printer settings on your computer and navigate to the printing preferences/options.
  • Look for a duplex printing option and ensure it's set to "On" or "Automatic".
  • Save the settings and try printing again to see if it prints on both sides of the paper.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
