HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

Suddenly my HP 7740 seems like there is no power, but the power is fine and the blue wifi light is on. Has anyone had this issue and is there a resolution?

Hi @BriBri62

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 appears to have no power but the blue Wi-Fi light is still on, this likely points to an issue with the printer's internal power components or control panel.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Hard Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to allow any residual power to drain.
  • Plug it back into a direct wall outlet (avoid using power strips or surge protectors) and turn the printer on. Check if the control panel lights up.

2. Confirm Power Connection

  • Inspect the Power Cable:
    • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the printer and the wall outlet.
    • If possible, test the printer with a different compatible power cord to rule out cable issues.
  • Wall Outlet Test:
    • Confirm that the wall outlet is functional by plugging in another device.

3. Check for a Display Issue

  • If only the control panel is unresponsive but the blue Wi-Fi light is on, the display itself might be malfunctioning. Try printing from another device (via Wi-Fi) to confirm if the printer responds.

4. Reset the Printer Firmware

  • Disconnect the printer from Wi-Fi by holding the Wireless button until it turns off.
  • Reconnect the printer to your network using the WPS method or via the HP Smart App.
  • Check for any available firmware updates via the HP Smart App or the HP Support website.

5. Inspect for Electrical or Hardware Issues

  • Overheating or Power Surges:
    • Recent power surges or overheating may have affected the power board. Allow the printer to cool for a while and then try powering it on again.
  • Internal Component Failure:
    • If the above steps fail, the issue could be with the printer's internal power supply unit or motherboard, which may require servicing.

No none of these solutions worked. The panel is still black with only the blue wifi light illuminated.
