Hi there, I am having a problem with my printer. It prints a black background on every image. I have tried every different type of operating system I have available to me, printed from a laptop, desktop, mac, imac, iPhone, iPad. It does it from everything! It is soo frustrating, not to mention I get charged for those pages. I have tried printing directly from word, excel, preview, acrobat, the internet, etc. Nothing is working. I have researched countless different things to try and "FIX" the problem but none of them work. 

 

Also, I have tried to contact customer service about a 1,000 times and your automated system sucks. I keep getting sent back to the start. At this point I want to throw my printer in the alley and bash it with a bat. Cancel my hpinstant ink and never buy an HP again.

Synopsis of the issue: Image prints have a black background instead of a clear background

 

Some of the possibly sources of the issue include

  • Could be Image File type - changed from one format to another
  • Could be the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled
  • Sure, could be hardware - less likely - possible

Image File Type

 

Are the images .png files that have been copied, inserted, or renamed as .jpg files?

 

Why?

.png files, that is image files that end in ".png" support a clear background.

 

Changing the file type to a .jpg file removes the clear background.

That means changing the image from a .PNG to a .JPG changes the background to black.

 

For example,

This is a common affliction of Clip Art files - they are good as .PNG files - Changing the file to .JPG file, not-so-much.

If you are going to trash the printer, before you do that, please read...

IMPORTANT:

Cancel the Instant Ink subscription and remove the Instant Ink cartridges from the printer for return to HP in the Recycle envelope you have used for depleted cartridges.
