Hi everybody, like I said in the title, my printer does not print anymore, or prints only a  part of the document.

I attached two images: in one, you can see the same page printed before the problem and after. In the other, there is another page printed only for a half, with little black streaks.

My internet connection: LAN

Thanks for the help

Hi @Alice1994,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues printing on your HP Photosmart C5180 printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?

Are you able to make a copy on the printer?

Have you tried to print from different applications?

How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Please try to make a few copies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

Step to copy:

  • Please place the required document face down on the flatbed scanner and touch the copy button.
  • If it copies fine, please uninstall the printer and reinstall the full feature software for this printer.

Recommend you try the steps suggested in this HP Article and let me know how it goes. (the article says Windows 8 but the procedure is the same for Windows 10 as well.)

If the issue persists, I would suggest you try to uninstall and reinstall the full feature software for the printer.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Then install the full feature software from this link:  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL48442/al-117577-4/DJ2540_188.exe   after selecting the correct operating system.

This should do the trick for you. If it does not, please try to install the basic drivers from the same link and check if that resolves the issue.

Also if it is still unresolved please try the windows Built-in drivers from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 This should do the trick for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead.

I tried everything you said, but nothing changed.

The printer is connected with USB.

Today the situation seems worse: the printer says: "out of paper" even if there is, and the paper jams practically every time I try to print.

Thank you for the answer

Hello, @Alice1994

I see that you were interacting with @Jeet_singh. I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

Did you try making a copy on the printer?

Fix the paper feed and the paper jam issues by following this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TgVxCq_oHM

Make sure to clean the rollers as suggested in the video.

Once done, perform a power drain on the printer as suggested below:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, try making a copy on the printer and see if the copy comes out fine.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

I've just tried to do a copy, but the paper jammed..  :indifferent:

I didn't say that a cartridge is expired a few months ago, maybe it's the problem..

Another thing: opening the cartridge door I noticed something damaged ... I attach an image

For now, I won't contact the support, because I don't know if I really need a new printer, and I'd like to see if we can find a solution, but thank you 🙂
