@Ftroy, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

The blinking yellow light, X, and green downward arrow on your HP printer typically indicate a cartridge issue, paper jam, or firmware-related error, depending on your printer model.

Here’s how to troubleshoot this step-by-step:

Identify Your Printer Model

Different HP printers (like DeskJet, ENVY, Smart Tank) use different light codes. Please confirm your printer model (e.g., HP ENVY 6000, DeskJet 2700, Smart Tank 520, etc.).

General Troubleshooting Based on Common Models

For HP ENVY 6000 or 6400 Series

Try:

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove and reseat both cartridges.
  3. Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  4. Check for any paper jams and remove them.
  5. Restart the printer.

For HP Smart Tank Series

Try:

  1. Check the control panel for any error codes (like “E” followed by a number).
  2. Ensure both printheads are properly installed.
  3. Press the Resume button (green arrow) to continue after clearing any issues.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
