New printer bought about one month ago. Several times in last two weeks a print job starts and the first page is double printed, like two exact same pages, one shifted down about 1/8 inch over the other. I reprint the first page and everything is fine. This does not sound like any other problem I have ever encountered on printers. What to do?

Hi @Actxiom,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing from your HP OfficeJet printer on your Mac OSX 10.12. I'll be really glad to help you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless
Are you able to make a copy from the printer?
Have you tried to update the printer firmware?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the copy fails, I would suggest you try to perform an update on the printer, If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the firmware update on the printer, using this link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ8710_R1716A.dmg
If the copy comes out fine, I would suggest the next step would be to perform a reset printing system on Mac:
• Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
• Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
• Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
• Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
• Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
• Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
• Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
• Click the “Add button” (+).
• Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
• Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,

To: Jeet Singh - Thanks for downloading the instructions on how to clear my computer of its "strangeness." Since my computer is not more than three months old, and I have an extended warranty, I took it into BestBuy, where I purchased it, and sat down with John of the GEEK squad. He checked my printer with his diagnostic tools and reset something and said to come back if what he did didn't fix the problem. I appears to be printing okay at this point. Sorry I didn't use your check list, but I have copied your instructions and will certainly try them if I have any other problems.
Thanks and seasons greetings to you and your family.

I've tried the recommned solutions to prevent my OfficeJet Pro 8710 from double printing the first page but it continues. I'm using OS 10.13.6; the firmware checker said I was ok. The prior OfficeJet printers I had were great, when one of the kids needs a printer I give them my old one and get a new one; wish I had my old one back.
