I have an HP Deskjet 1010 and recently, when I try to print, the paper moves down a couple inches and then stops. It does not get jammed, it just stops being able to go through.

Hi @cph2001,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is having trouble catching and feeding the paper properly, there could be a few reasons behind this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if the paper isn't visibly jammed, there could be small pieces stuck in the printer's rollers or mechanism. Open the printer's cover and inspect carefully. If you find any paper, gently remove it.
  • Use the Right Paper Type: Ensure you're using the correct type and size of paper for your printer. Sometimes, using the wrong type or size of paper can cause feeding issues.
  • Clean the Rollers: Over time, dust, paper fibers, and other debris can accumulate on the rollers, causing them to lose grip on the paper. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the rollers. Make sure the printer is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Check Paper Alignment: Make sure the paper guides in the paper tray are adjusted properly to align with the edges of the paper.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes reset the printer's internal mechanisms.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause printing issues.
  • Inspect for Mechanical Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a mechanical problem with the printer's feeding mechanism.

By going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with your printer's paper feeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
