My printer is set to print in BLACK ONLY! Why is it using the color cartridges whem the documents I am printing are and White? The color cartridges are being deleted faster than the black.

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! This is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. As I understand you are having issues while printing from your Photosmart printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

This seems to be a normal, as this printer comes with 4 ink cartridges, color ink would be used to print in black for good quality and same thing implies if printing in color only.

How else can they get you to buy color ink?

I have an HP DesignJet 500 plotter and I NEVER plot in color and yet it uses the color cartridges!

It's a scam folks!

OK there are two users with input (and different devices)  

Geo is asking about the problem which is answered (with a thorough discussion) in the next link provided  by HP EXPERT MODERATOR Jeet_Singh  (and KUDOS).  Especially note 1) black uses color; and 2) everytime you turn on a printer it makes a lot of whiring and other sounds.  It's common knowledge that uses ink.  Thanks to Jeet_Singh for the informative link:

I am not an HP employee, searching for answers for queries.  From my first HP printer decades ago, I have done this (from the link):

"For users who wish to print utilizing just black ink (despite the reduced print quality), ...  a driver color setting (by selecting "print in grayscale with the black cartridge only" in printing preferences) specifies printing using only black ink. ...draft modes will have lower print quality and use less ink than the default plain paper normal mode"  As you know you can select Draft to Best (Maximum Detail), of which the latter uses more ink.

Where do I find  "PRINT IN GREYSCALE WITH BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY" ? Don't see anything like that on my printer.

I don't use any Mac OS nor the 7510 printer.  Check this link.  Save it for future reference.

For your needs, probably set the grayscale as default.  Then for any color do the settings for One-Time.
