Hi @Tardy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 4502 printer is showing as "offline" but is connected, it typically means there's a communication issue between your printer and the device you're trying to print from. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer Status
Ensure Printer is On and Ready:
- Make sure the printer is powered on and not displaying any error messages or warning lights.
Verify Printer Display:
- Check the printer's display or control panel to ensure it’s not showing any issues that might affect connectivity.
2. Check Physical Connections
Verify Network Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device. For wired connections, ensure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged in.
Restart Printer and Router:
- Power Cycle Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait for about 60 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.
- Restart Router: Unplug your router, wait for about 60 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to fully restart.
3. Check Printer Settings on Your Computer
Set Printer to Online:
- Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP 4502 printer and select See what's printing.
- In the window that opens, click Printer in the menu bar.
- If Use Printer Offline is checked, uncheck it.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP 4502 printer from the list on the left.
- Check if the printer status is “Idle” or “Online.” If it’s not, click Open Print Queue and then Resume.
Set Printer as Default:
- Ensure that your HP 4502 is set as the default printer on your computer. In Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac), right-click on the printer and select Set as default printer.
4. Reinstall or Update Printer Drivers
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.Right-click on your HP 4502 printer and select Remove device.
- Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.Select your printer and click the minus sign (-) to remove it.
- Re-add the printer by clicking the plus sign (+) and selecting your HP 4502.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
