HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer

It keeps saying "wait until printing has finished before pushing in output extender tray." I have printed multiple times and just changed the ink. I have already done a hard power reset as well as align the printer (these were suggestions I found on a quick online search).

Hi @McKenna19,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message you're encountering, "Wait until printing has finished before pushing in output," typically appears when there's a problem with the printing process or paper handling in your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue.

Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer. Open the printer's access door and check the paper path carefully. If you find any stuck paper, gently remove it. Make sure to turn off the printer before doing this to avoid any injuries.

Clear the Print Queue: Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the print queue, causing this error message. To clear the print queue, follow these steps:

  • On your computer, go to "Devices and Printers" (Windows) or "Printers & Scanners" (Mac).
  • Find your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer and right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on it.
  • Select "See what's printing" (Windows) or "Open Print Queue" (Mac).
  • Delete all pending print jobs in the queue.

Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Turn it on again and check if the error message persists.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download them from the HP website. If you suspect driver issues, you might also consider uninstalling and reinstalling the printer on your computer.

Check for Firmware Updates: Some printer issues can be resolved by updating the printer's firmware. Visit the HP support website and look for firmware updates specific to your printer model.

Use Supported Paper: Ensure that you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended for your printer. Incorrect paper settings can lead to paper jams and other printing errors.

Inspect the Output Tray: Make sure the output tray is properly aligned and not obstructed. If there's a sensor that detects the presence of paper in the output tray, check if it's clean and functioning correctly.

Perform a Printer Reset: A printer reset can often resolve various issues. Refer to your printer's user manual or HP's official website for instructions on how to perform a reset specific to your model.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the "Wait until printing has finished before pushing in output" error on your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
