Hi @jglen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Officejet Pro 8028 printer indicates that it is offline, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Follow these steps to get your printer back online.

Check Printer Power and Connections:

  • Ensure the printer is turned on and has power. The display screen should be lit.
  • Check that all cables (USB or Ethernet) are securely connected.
  • If using Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer as well.

Set the Printer as Default:

  • On your computer, go to the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac).
  • Navigate to "Devices and Printers" (Windows) or "Printers & Scanners" (Mac).
  • Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer and select "Set as default printer."

Check Printer Status in Devices and Printers:

  • In "Devices and Printers," right-click your printer and select "See what's printing."
  • In the new window, click on "Printer" in the menu bar.
  • Ensure that "Use Printer Offline" is not checked. If it is, uncheck it.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Only):

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website.
  • This tool can diagnose and resolve many printer issues automatically.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028.
  • Install the drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Alternatively, you can uninstall the printer from "Devices and Printers" and then reinstall it.

Check Network Connection (for Wireless Printers):

  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer's control panel to check the connection status.
  • Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart your router if necessary.

Assign a Static IP Address (Advanced):

  • Sometimes, assigning a static IP address to your printer can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
  • Navigate to the network settings and assign a static IP address within your network's range.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • In "Devices and Printers," right-click your printer and select "See what's printing."
  • Cancel all documents in the print queue.

By following these steps, you should be able to bring your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer back online and resume printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
