Hi @Nancy743,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 4158e printer will copy and scan but isn't printing documents, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check the Printer's Status

  • Make sure the printer is not in Offline Mode. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and ensure that Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

Set as Default Printer

  • Make sure the DeskJet 4158e is set as your default printer. You can do this by right-clicking the printer icon in Devices and Printers and selecting Set as Default Printer.

Clear the Print Queue

  • Sometimes, documents stuck in the print queue can prevent new jobs from printing.
  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing. If there are any stuck documents, cancel them and try printing again.

Check Printer Driver

  • Make sure your printer driver is up-to-date. Visit HP's website to download and install the latest drivers for your model. Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers cause printing issues.

Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off your printer, wait for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Do the same with your computer to refresh both devices' connections.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Even though the printer is copying and scanning, a minor paper jam or obstruction could still prevent printing. Open the paper tray and printer access areas to check for paper or debris.

Reinstall the Printer

  • If none of the above steps work, uninstall and reinstall the printer:
    • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove Device. Then, reinstall it using the installation CD or download the driver from HP's website.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the minus (-) button to remove it. Re-add the printer by clicking the plus (+) button.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
