Hi @Shelbi1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 8022 printer is having issues with printing in color, even though you're using HP-branded ink.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

1. Check Printer Settings

  • On your computer:
    • Go to the print dialog box when you try to print something.
    • Click on "Printer Properties" or "Preferences."
    • Ensure that the "Print in Grayscale" option is not selected. It might be under the "Paper/Quality" tab or "Advanced" settings.
  • On your mobile devices:
    • Check if there is an option to print in color in the print settings menu before sending the document to the printer.

2. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Update Driver:
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 8022 printer. Ensure you select the correct operating system.
    • Install the updated driver and restart your devices.
  • Reinstall Driver:
    • On Windows, go to Device Manager, find your printer under Printers, right-click, and select Uninstall device. Then reinstall the driver from the HP website.
    • On macOS, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the - button to remove it. Then, reinstall the printer.

3. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool for Windows. It can automatically detect and fix various printer issues, including problems with color printing.

4. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Alignment: Sometimes, misaligned cartridges can cause printing issues. Run the "Align Printhead" tool from your printer’s maintenance settings.
  • Cartridge Status: Ensure that the color cartridges are correctly installed and have enough ink. Check the ink levels via your printer’s control panel or HP Smart app.
  • Clean Printhead: In your printer’s settings, you may find an option to clean the printhead. Running this might clear any clogs that could be causing the issue.

5. Printer Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Go to the HP website and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. An outdated firmware might cause printing issues.

6. Print a Test Page

  • Print a test page directly from your printer’s control panel (this option is usually under "Setup" > "Reports" > "Print Quality Report"). Check if the colors print correctly.

7. Check Application Settings

  • Ensure the applications you are using to print (e.g., Word, PDF reader) are not set to print in grayscale or black and white by default.

8. Reset the Printer

  • As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes clear up stubborn issues, but you will need to reconnect it to your network and set it up again afterward.
