Hi @DLacey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer is not printing from Microsoft Word but prints from other programs, it could be due to specific settings or issues related to Word itself. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Verify that your HP printer is selected as the default printer in your Windows or Mac system settings. Sometimes, Word may default to a different printer.

Print a Test Page:

  • First, ensure that the printer is functioning correctly by printing a test page from the printer's control panel. If it prints a test page, the issue may be with Word.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can lead to compatibility issues. Click here, to update Firmware and drivers for your current OS.

Check Print Settings in Word:

  • In Microsoft Word, open the document you want to print.
  • Click on "File" > "Print."
  • Make sure the correct printer is selected in the print dialog box.
  • Review the print settings, such as paper size, orientation, and print quality, to ensure they match your intended print job.

Try Printing a Different Document:

  • Create a new document or open a different document in Word and try printing it. Sometimes, the issue may be specific to a particular document.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, print jobs can get stuck in the print queue. Clear the print queue to ensure that there are no pending print jobs that could be causing conflicts.
    • For Windows: Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers," right-click on your printer, and select "See what's printing." Then, click "Printer" and select "Cancel All Documents."
    • For Mac: Open the "Printers & Scanners" settings, select your printer, and click "Open Print Queue." Then, click "Printer" and select "Cancel All Documents."

Repair Microsoft Office:

  • If the issue persists, you can try repairing your Microsoft Office installation:
    • For Windows: Go to "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Programs and Features," select Microsoft Office, and click "Repair."
    • For Mac: Use the "Repair" option in the Microsoft Office application.

Test Printing with Another User Account:

  • Create a new user account on your computer and test printing from Word with that account. This can help determine if the issue is specific to your user profile.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may want to contact Microsoft Office support for further assistance, as it may be a Word-specific problem.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
