Hi @Rob033,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw, if you're encountering a fatal NVRAM error and standard troubleshooting hasn't resolved the issue, performing an NVRAM reset or factory reset may help. Here’s how you can attempt these steps.

NVRAM Reset

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Ensure the printer is completely powered off.
  2. Power On with Reset Key Sequence:
    • Turn on the printer while holding down the ‘Go’ button (this is often represented by a circular arrow icon) until you see the HP logo or the printer starts initializing.
    • Some models may require you to hold down the ‘Go’ button along with other buttons like ‘Cancel’ or ‘Resume’. Consult the specific manual for exact combinations if this doesn’t work.

Factory Reset

  1. Turn On the Printer.
  2. Access the Menu:
    • Use the control panel to navigate to the ‘Setup’ or ‘Service’ menu.
  3. Navigate to the Factory Reset Option:
    • Find and select ‘Restore Defaults’, ‘Factory Reset’, or a similar option. Confirm your selection when prompted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Aiden4

I have  tried the reset sequence you have suggested, unfortunately this does not work.

I have tried the sequence in the troubleshooting manual as below with no success. I believe there is some special sequence HP has to reset the MFP to factory default and to clear the NVRAM.

My printer powers up and displays the HP logo and the Energy Star logo, can hear the mechanical belt and drums startup and initialise but the screen will not progress onto the ready screen.

NVRAM initialization
Performing an NVRAM initialization resets the following settings and information:
● All menu settings are reset to factory default values.
● All localization settings, including language and country/region, are reset.
CAUTION: All onboard network settings are also reset. Be sure to print a configuration page before
restoring defaults. Make note of the IP address that is listed on the Jetdirect configuration page. You might
need to restore the IP address after an NVRAM initialization.
After performing an NVRAM initialization, reconfigure any computers that print to this product. Uninstall and
then reinstall the product software on the computers.
1. Turn the product off.
2. Press the right arrow button. Hold this button as you turn the product on.
3. When Permanent storage init. appears on the display, release the right arrow button.
When the product has finished the NVRAM initialization, it returns to the Ready state.

Please send me the specific reset code for the product number CZ165A  S/N: CNB6FC72C7

Thank You in advance.
