An error icon, printer head with three dashed lines coming out the bottom, is showing up on the screen of my Officejet Pro 8100 and not allowing any printing to occur. I have tried the steps provided by the HP virtual assistant with no success. Please help!

Hi @BruceTSklare,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're seeing an error related to the printhead and your attempts to resolve it through the HP virtual assistant haven't worked, try these steps to align the printhead on your HP Officejet Pro 8100.
Power Cycle:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check Printhead Cartridges:
- Open the printer’s access door to reach the printhead.
- Remove the printhead and the ink cartridges.
- Check for any visible damage or debris. Clean any dirt or ink buildup using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Avoid touching the copper contacts or nozzles.
Reinstall Cartridges and Printhead:
- Reinsert the cartridges into the printhead and then place the printhead back into the printer.
- Make sure everything is securely in place.
Align Printhead:
- Ensure the printer is turned on.
- Open the printer’s control panel menu on the printer screen.
- Navigate to the "Setup" or "Tools" menu and look for an option related to "Printhead Alignment" or "Align Printhead."
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.
Run Printer Diagnostics:
- If the alignment option is not available or doesn't resolve the issue, access the "Printer Maintenance" or "Diagnostics" option in the printer menu.
- Run any available diagnostic tests to identify or correct issues.
Update Firmware:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
- Follow the instructions to download and install any updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
