HP 5510
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Tring to print wirelessly.

I can see the printer in Preferences> Printer and scanners and set the networked HP5510 as the default printer. All fine but when I want to print something I get a window saying Ready to Print but it doesn't print. Also, the printer remains in Paused mode and even after pressing Resume button it doen't print.

The printer works fine with my second computer running Windows 10. It's connected with a USB cable.

Thanks.

Hi! @Nick766, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have issues printing from networked printers.

Don't worry I'd love to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please try the steps recommended below.

Resetting the print system deletes all devices in the print queue. This includes both HP and non-HP devices.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) the blank space in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system.
Click Reset in the confirmation window.
Enter the administrator username and password, and then click OK.
Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list.
Add your printer to the list again as was done previously.
Try printing again.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Thanks for your reply. I have done what you've suggested and from HP Utilities I can print the test page without any problem over the network. However, the printer doesn't print any document. When I go to print a dialogue box appears saying it's printing but nothing happens.

Puzzling. Thank for your willingness to help.

@Nick766

You're welcome. 🙂

As @A4Apollo is out of the office, I'm replying to you.

It is a very good observation by you. If the printer is able to print a test page from the HP Utilities then it means that the printer is connected to the network.

I would like to know if you have reset the printing system in Mac?

Also, does the printer print via USB connection?

Let me know. I'll assist you further. Thanks!

Hey Kazi

If I connect the printer HP5510 to my iMac with a USB cable that is running OS 10.12.4 then printing is successful.

However, the printier is notmally stationed in another room as my wife also uses that printer with her computer running Windows 10.

I am attaching two images to help you see the issue. When I print wirelessly I get a message failure in communication

though it prints the test page from Utilities panel.

The following window seems to confirm the wireless connection. It's driving me mad as I have wasted so much time on it. Thanks.

Hi! @Nick766, I am the MrRobot. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

It's great to hear from you again and thanks for sharing the pictures.

So have you tried resetting the print system on your MAC?

If you have done resetting the print system on your MAC, please try the steps recommended below.

Let's start with a permissions repair:

1. Open Finder and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and open it.
2. Click once on your Macintosh HD on the left.
3. Click on Repair Disk Permissions along the bottom.  Let it finish.

If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software from MAC and reinstall the printer software and check again.

Click Finder in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, then open the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder.
If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it, then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, then click Go.
The Printers folder opens.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
Restart the Mac.
Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, then select Empty Trash.

Please find the link to update the printer software.

Let me know if this works!

Happy weekend ahead! 🙂

Thank you MrRobot. Problem solved, at last! I followed strictly your instructions and reinstalled the software. There were two significan steps in the process:

1. Deleting the folder from /Library/Printers (hadn't done this before when I had reinstalled)

2. In the IP Protocol when adding the new printer, there are four options from the dropdown menu.  I had originally chosen the IPP option. However, this time I chose HP Jetdirect Socket and it worked. I have no clue as to what those four options mean, to be honest.

BTW, on the new OS Sierra on the Mac there is no longer an option for Repair Disk Permissions. That option has been removed to many Mac Users annoyance.

A BIG tahnk you again.

Just one more question or do I start a new thread? I used to be able to connect to the printer HP5510 and print wirelessly from my iPad. However, with OS updates I can no longer do that. Is there any solution to that. HP ePrint doesn't see the wireless printer when it searches.
