Hello.

Issue: Brand new unused Black HP 61XL ink cartridge - need $50 refund (have store receipt).

The problem:  I have an older HP Deskjet 2540 that is out of the warranty period.  It uses HP 61 ink cartridges.  I started getting "Incompatible Ink Cartridge" and various other errors so I went and bought a brand new ink cartridge for $50 from Office Depot.  I opened it, of course, and installed the new cartridge (still have the wrapper).

The printer still will not print.  I have spent the last few days continually going through suggested troubleshooting fixes via HP Print and Scan Doctor, HP Virtual Assistant, and even doing random searches on the internet.  I have done most of the steps multiple times.  I updated the printer firmware earlier this morning.

I need to buy a new HP printer.  However, I want my $50 back that I wasted on buying a new ink cartridge based on HP's troubleshooting suggestions.

What can I do??  Help!!!

Sincerely,

Extremely Frustrated Loyal HP Customer

@Lirianna, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

HP does not take back the ink cartridge if it is not in its original packaging. However, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the available options.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.
