New HP ENVY 5055 won't print in color and when it prints in black and white it's very blurry and the ink looks smudged. I am printing from a 3 year old MacBook Pro which has been updated regularly. I've tried alignment, cleaning cartridges, etc. with no luck. I just bought this printer less than a week ago. Do I need to return it?

Since the print quality test report contains color, it could be an issue with the printer software and driver installed on your Mac. Removing the existing printer driver and the setting up the printer with Apple AirPrint may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:
Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer and Mac software:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print and scan.
If you are able to print and Scan, then re-enable McAfee and Firewall.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
I understand you need support and I'll be glad to help you out. However, for an accurate solution, I would need more details:
Are you able to copy documents in color?
How is the printer connected, USB or Wireless?
Could you print a print quality report and let me know if it has color in it. In order to print the report:
1.) On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .
2.) Touch Tools.
3.) Swipe up on the display, and then touch Print Quality Report.

Hello,
In response to your questions...
-I am not able to copy documents in color. (there isn't even an option to print in color, only black and white)
-It is connected via wireless
-I printed the quality report and yes that report did print in color.

Thank you!! I followed your directions and was able to get the option to print in color to show up, and the color was printing nicely. However, the black was still blurry and smudged looking. I replaced the black ink cartridge with a new black one and that did the trick! It is all aligned and printing nicely right now. Thank you for your help. Happy Holidays!
