I just purchased and installed the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. I uninstalled all old printers before installing the 8710. The printer prints the test page, any web based pages and any pdf files just fine, but refuses to print any Word or Excel docs. I have uninstalled and re-installed this printer 3 times with same result. I have run the HP print and Scan Doctor 5.1 several times. It says e4verything is fine. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and software and it will not print Microsoft docs. I hit print and nothing happens. There are no docs in the print que and no error messages. I have spent two days trying to get this problem resolved and am about ready to return the printer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Good day. Thank you for stopping by the Hp support forums. Brilliant troubleshooting. Kudos to you for that. I will be happy to help you.
- Did this happen after a recent software or Windows update?
- Did you try the Windows Built-in drivers?
For now, please try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-ink-tank-wireless-410-series/16180953/model/16180954/documen... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware connecting it to a computer.
Then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level.
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
- Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link: https://hp.care/2rZfJBC
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/790... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix the issue.
If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
- This should resolve the issue for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it.
Please update the printer firmware also, if required by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- This should do the trick for you.
If the issue continues, then perform these steps:
- First uninstall the printer drivers completely.
- Then restart the computer.
- Then login to the new user account.
- Then disable UAC by following these steps
Here's how to turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off in Windows 10:
- Type UAC in the search field on your taskbar. (If the search field isn't visible, right-click the Start button and choose Search.)
- Click Change User Account Control settings in the search results.
- Then do one of the following:
- To turn UAC off, drag the slider down to Never notify and click OK.
- To turn UAC on, drag the slider up to the desired level of security and click OK.
- You may be prompted to confirm your selection or enter an administrator password.
- Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
Perform these steps in the new user account.
- if the issue continues, then backup all your important data and perform a Microsoft Push-Button reset of Windows 10 from this link: http://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c04742289
- Then download the full feature software and install it on the computer. This should install and fix the issue.
- Then download and install the full feature software and drivers from the same link mentioned above and this should fix the issue for you.
Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
