I purchased 2 HP Envy 6234 printers both described as catalogue returns. One sealed and never opened. Registered the cartridges and set up instant ink etc. The other one has been opened but it does not have any cartridges and states that on the screen. What is the best way forward? I have no idea of the printer has already been set up before it was returned. It looks like new but no way of telling.  I plan on setting up another instant ink supply.

I have purchased both tri colour and black original hp cartridges today and  It appears that the printer had never been set up. I get the message use the set up cartridges that came with your  printer. How can I get the printer to  Bypass the set up cartridges please?

The only option left is to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer. 

 

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
