Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We just installed the HP Smart Tank 7602 - all connected through ethernet. Test print page worked fine - some of the blacks were just ok.

When doing some real printing with multi-page documents, the printer would suddenly stop printing part way through a page. No real error reported. Then it sometimes started again from the beginning of the print job. Happened a number of ties. Also happened when trying to print just a single page. Feels like a network issue - not sure how to diagnoze.

Any advice?

Hi @RichardG25,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue could be related to the network connection or data transfer between your computer and the printer. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot.

Check Ethernet Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to the network. If it's a wired connection, try unplugging the Ethernet cable from both the printer and the router, then plugging it back in to make sure the connection is secure.
  • If the printer is connected to a router, check that the router is functioning correctly and that other devices can communicate over the network without issues.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes, firmware issues can cause odd printing behavior. Go into the printer’s settings via the HP Smart app or web interface and check for any available firmware updates. Installing the latest version might help resolve the issue.

Reboot Devices:

  • Restart your router, the printer, and your computer. This can help resolve temporary network issues.

Print via USB:

  • To rule out network-related problems, try connecting the printer directly to your computer via USB (if possible) and printing. If the issue resolves, it's likely a network issue.

Check Printer Queue:

  • Look for any pending print jobs or stuck jobs in the printer queue on your computer. Sometimes a stuck job can cause the printer to behave unexpectedly. Clear the queue and try printing again.

Test with a Different Device:

  • Try printing from another device (another computer or phone) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer or the original device you're using.

Check for Network Congestion:

  • If your network is under heavy use (many devices connected), this can affect the printer’s ability to receive print jobs. Try reducing the load on your network or connect the printer directly to a less congested port.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
