HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One Printer

I was given a bunch of hp ink cartridges. I tried changing the colored ink. When I put it in my printer screen shows a flashing E²! And below it was a fast orange flashing light and I believe the power light was flashing too. The cartridges all fit in the printer easily but I fail to understand why it won't work with my printer.

Hi @Akbmandy83,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer that has a error code and blinking lights.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

I am sorry for the inconvenience and the trouble you had to go through with your printer in the past.

However, were you able to perform the above shared steps and did it resolve the issue now?

Take care and have a good day

I did all the things in the advice. It is still telling me that the cartridges are not compatible.  I would be ok with that but I have already bought 2 sets of cartridges to fix this issue.

I would like to fix this issue.

If it cant be fixed, I wont be buying any more HP products

Hi @ChristineS123,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

Do you have the same issue after replacing the new set of ink cartridges as well?

Were there any changes made to your printer before the issue started?

Take care and have a great day ahead!
