I have a MacBook Pro 10.9.5 laptop. When I hit Control P or use the dropdown menu to print, ther is no SHOW DETAILS button next to the PDF button, therefore, I have no TWO-SIDED option. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I have a duplexer on my printer, but even when I go to LAYOUT and click on LONG END my one-sided copy does not come out as a two-sided print as it should. I uninstalled everything HP on my laptop, and reset my printer to factory settings. I also, disconnect the internet connection, powered off my computer and my printer, unplugged every thing, and left it be over-night. When I plugged in everything, turned on wi-fi, plugged in my printer, set it up, turned on my computer and installed the printer driver, everything remained as it was.

How can I fix both problems. I would be eternally grateful to the person or people who can fix this, as it's driving me to drink!

@Heymare66,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing from your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Have you tried to remove the printer from the queue and then add it as Airprint?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Restart the computer, printer, and router to resolve any connectivity error states.

   NOTE:

The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections, and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

  1. Turn off the router by pressing the power button or disconnecting the power cord.

  2. Turn off the printer, and then unplug any USB or Ethernet cables.

       NOTE:

When an Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, the printer cannot connect wirelessly.

  3. Close all running programs on your computer, and then shut down the computer.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to the router, and then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.

  5. Turn on the printer.

  6. Turn on the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you could try to update the printer firmware, If your printer connected wireless, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/oj8630/OJP8630_R1733A.dmg Once done, restart the printer.

If the issue still persists, then I would suggest here is to remove the printer from the queue and then add it as a Airprint.

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

If the issue persists, then I would suggest you check the settings: HP Printers - How to Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Mac) (Duplexing)

To verify this open the System Preferences and go to Print & Fax. Open the print queue of your printer.

Click on Printer Setup and from the tab menu choose Driver. Verify the box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked.

9.) Open Word, click the File menu, then select Print. The Print window appears.

NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.

10.) In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.

NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.

11.) To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit) Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

12.) Select Layout from the drop-down menu.

13.) Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding (Portrait), or Long-Edge binding (landscape).

If the issue persists, then the last resort would be to perform Reset Printing System on Mac. Doing this will delete all the printers listed in the queue.

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Thank you, Jeet_Singh for your reply.

I had already done everything already that you suggested, but to no avail. I also watched the automatic duplexing video, but the narrator states if your printer is programed to AirPrint, to delete the printer and then click on the printer name and not AirPrint. (Both suggestions aren't working anyway, so I will have to factory reset everything).

Thank you!

@Heymare66

You're welcome.

As @Jeet_singh is out of the office today, I'm replying to you.

I truly appreciate your efforts and patience.

Yes, you may reset the printing system. However, please note that resetting the printing system will remove all the printers that are installed in your computer and you will have to reinstall them.

Keep me posted for any further questions.

Good luck! 🙂
