Hi @IanM1846,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the E4 error on the HP Smart Tank 5105 All-In-One Printer typically indicates a paper feed issue, and it sounds like that's what you're dealing with.

Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve it:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Obstructions:

  • Open all accessible areas of the printer, including the paper trays, rear access door, and any other areas where paper might have jammed.
  • Look for any small bits of paper or debris that might be causing the issue.

Clear the Paper Path:

  • Gently pull out any paper that is stuck in the printer. Be careful not to tear the paper as you remove it.
  • If you can't reach the jammed paper, consult your printer's manual for instructions on how to access and clear the paper path.

Inspect and Clean the Rollers:

  • Check the paper feed rollers for any dust or debris. You can use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean them gently.
  • Let the rollers dry completely before attempting to print again.

Reset the Printer:

  • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can try a factory reset. Be aware that this will reset your printer to its original settings, so you may need to reconfigure it afterward. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on performing a factory reset.

Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix bugs and errors.

Refer to this document: HP Smart Tank 5105 All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
