Hi @SueBeth,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP DeskJet 2600 series printer and the red ink. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Check ink levels: Verify that the red ink cartridge has enough ink by checking the ink levels through the printer software or control panel. If the ink level is low or empty, replace the cartridge with a new one.
- Clean the printhead: Sometimes, the printhead may get clogged, preventing the ink from flowing properly. Most printers have a printhead cleaning utility in the software or control panel. Run the cleaning cycle for the printhead to see if it resolves the issue.
- Align the printhead: Misalignment of the printhead can also cause issues with color printing. The printer software or control panel usually has an option to align the printhead. Follow the instructions provided to align the printhead and see if it improves the print quality.
- Check cartridge compatibility: Ensure that the tri-color cartridge you inserted is compatible with your HP DeskJet 2600 series printer. Double-check the cartridge model number to make sure it matches the printer's requirements. Using an incompatible cartridge can result in printing issues.
- Reinstall the cartridge: Try removing the red ink cartridge and reinserting it firmly into the printer. Make sure it is properly seated and secured. Sometimes, a loose or improperly installed cartridge can cause problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
