Thanks. TP-Link tells me that this issue does not show up for all HP printers. May my HP6940 is so outdated that it gives me these troubles. I want to keep this printer for its robustness and the fact it is sparingly with cartridges.

Well you might have better luck with Powerline Ethernet adapters.

Currently I use a powerline ethernet adapter. It works pretty well, but sometimes with a hick-up in internet connection it looses its IP-adres and I have to reset the powerline adapter. This is a well known issue. That is why I wanted to try connection with the range extender.
