Officejet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have a 2 Officejet Pro 8600 wifi networked printers with two trays. The second tray does not show on Windows 10 Home laptop (Samsung) or Dell Inspiron.

They show and work fine on the Win 7 and 8 machines. We have tried and tried and tried every suggestion found on the web including removing and reattaching 2 tray, removing software with HP app,  and https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Windows-10-does-not-recognize-extra-paper... etc, etc, etc to no avail.

On one of the printers the 2nd tray did show yesterday, but after the doing the many suggestions it does not show in Win 10. It is not an option in Device Settings in Printer Preferences.

When adding printer it does not show up in browsing network printers. We have to enter the IP Address.

We are lost. And NEW suggestion are most welcome.

Hi! @Cenocre, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand the printer tray 2 is not getting detected on your PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried checking with brand paper?

As you mentioned the printer tray 2 is not getting detected on your PC.

Try the steps recommended below.

The HP Officejet Pro 8600 driver do include an optional paper tray setting, be sure to check Tray 2 as Installed under Printer Properties > Device Settings as shown below:

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Remove and reinstall the Tray 2 paper tray

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  3. Grasp the underside of the paper tray in Tray 2, and then pull it out from the printer.

  3. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

  4. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

If the issue still persists uninstall the printer software from root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Link to update the full feature printer software.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot feed issues with your printer.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is a hardware issue with your printer.

I had already tried everything suggested repeatedly before posting this.

Also, the tray IS being recognized by the printer as it shows up on the Windows 7 and 8 machines.

By the way, I did try to contact support, but every link that I tried on your site from various starting point took me to a page not found error! The link you provided is the first that actually works.

@Cenocre, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the tray is getting recognized on Windows 7 and 8 PC's.

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers as recommended in my previous post?

If you have tried the steps and if the issue still persists.

Uninstall the printer drivers from your PC and install the basic printer drivers and check if it works.
