HP 8630 Printer (all in one)
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

ON  theHP 8630 printer is there a quick way to  switch to print from the locked paper tray (using a Mac)?  I am normally printing from tray 2 and have special  letterhead  paper in tray one.  It would be great to be able to choose the letterhead in tray 1 at the time of printing without having to reset the printer manually.  Is there a way?   Jim1949

Hi @James1949,

From the application, go to File, and then click Print.
Make sure your printer is selected.
If you do not see options on the Print dialog box, click Show Details.
Select Paper Feed from the drop-down menu, and then select Printer Default, Tray 1, Tray 2, Tray 3, Tray 4, Manual Feed, or Envelope Feed. Then beside Presets: select “Save Current Settings as Preset” and type in a new name. You can make a preset for each tray and then the next time you want to print, just click on the drop down beside preset and select the one you want.

Hope this helps. Thanks!

Welcome @James1949,

Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you would like to know a quick way to unlock the trays. I will certainly like to help you.

I have provided the manual with more information on changing the trays: Officejet 8630.

Feel free to click on the "Accept as Solution" button and the "Thumbs Up" for my assistance. Please let me know the results and if there is anything else I can help you with. Thanks!

Thanks, Gemini02. My post was actually more specific, as I had already (unsuccessfully) consulted the user manual.  I am looking to easily switch back and forth between paper trays at the moment of printing  ( specifically,  for a way to "unlock" the  paper tray containing special letterhead paper and then return to plain paper) .  Is there a way to choose the correct tray from the "print" screen on my Mac ...or do I have to access the printer settings to unlock the tray and then re-lock it after printing?  Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Thanks very much.  On the Mac, the option that I needed to select was paper type/quality in order to select the trays.  I should be OK now.  JS

Wow, thanks buddy.  Someone asks a question and you say, go read the manual!  Insightful.  Brilliant.  Why didn't I think of that idea.....This is why HP has a terrible reputation for customer service.

I have a 452DN printer and even though all the "presets" are set for the main tray 2, tray 1 is on the side and there is no tray 3, it says "LOCKED!"  How in the world can I search this site and not see a single thing for tray lock fixing?

There is a full reem of paper in tray 2, it says "out of paper."  Then, if it does not say that, which is says 90% of the time, it says, Printing from Tray 1, which has no paper in it, since that is where I put envelopes and photos.

Bought this expensive junk pile on February 14th 2017 and it has been a royal pain.  I will NEVER, EVER, EVER buy another HP computer or printer again.  Your customer service is abysmal, nobody cares and your quality is poor at best.
