I have a brand new Officejet 100 Mobile Printer (just took it out of the box today) and I'm trying to print photos from my Canon Rebel T5, which is connected by usb to the printer.

I loaded plain printer paper into the tray and the photos printed no problem. When I try the same steps with matte photo paper, the printer flashes with a paper error and the camera display says no paper is found.

The photo paper I'm using is the Staples brand, 8-1/2 x 11 inches and 230g/m (61lb), which weighs less than the reccommended 250 g/m2 (66 lb) on the hp website - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02623030

Does this printer only work with HP photo paper or have I missed a step somewhere along the way?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP Community,

I understand you are having trouble printing onto photo paper with your Officejet 100 Mobile Printer. I will be happy to help.

The Officejet 100 Mobile Printer will print on other brands of photo paper. However, in the  User Manual, HP does recommend using HP papers that are specifically designed for the type of project you are printing.

To connect a PictBridge-compatible camera
The printer supports standard PictBridge-compliant features. See your digital camera documentation for more information about using its PictBridge features.
1. Connect the camera to the printer with the USB cable provided with the camera. The printer and camera compare features, and the compatible features are displayed on the camera.
2. Navigate through the camera menus to execute the desired photo-printing features.

PictBridge digital cameras and PictBridge printers support a set of specifications according to the PictBridge standard. However, support for options such as paper types and sizes, page layout, and other features varies widely among digital cameras. Some digital cameras may use a set of default settings while others may not display any settings. The digital camera manufacturer determines any specific feature supported.

I will recommend checking out the manual that came with your Canon Rebel T5 to see what options are available.
