Hi @KF_BN , Welcome to HP Support Community!

The error code OW_4XX_OWSWS00001 on an HP LaserJet printer typically indicates an issue with the printer's connection to HP Web Services or a problem during the setup process with the HP Smart app. It suggests a failure to connect to HP's servers for activation or configuration, possibly due to network instability, a firewall/VPN block, or a firmware glitch. Here are the steps to resolve this error:

Basic Restarts
Start by resetting the devices involved to clear temporary issues:
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart Your Router: Unplug your Wi-Fi router for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and allow it to fully reboot.
  • Restart Your Computer/Mobile Device: Restart the device you are using to set up the printer (your computer or phone with the HP Smart app).
Check Network and Software Settings
The issue often stems from network communication problems.
  • Ensure a Stable Internet Connection: Make sure your internet connection is stable. The printer and your setup device must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Disable VPN/Firewall Temporarily: If you are using a VPN or an aggressive firewall, it might be blocking the printer's access to HP's web services. Temporarily disable them during the setup process and re-enable them afterward.
  • Check for 2.4GHz Network Connection: Many HP printers, especially older models, only support the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi frequency band. Ensure this band is enabled on your router and that the printer is connected to it.
  • Update the HP Smart App: Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device. Check the app store (Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, or Google Play Store) for updates.
  • Avoid USB Connection During Setup: A USB cable connection to the computer can prevent the printer from connecting to web services required for initial setup. Disconnect any USB cables during the wireless setup
 Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with HP's current web services.
  1. If the printer can connect to the internet temporarily, you might be able to update the firmware directly from the printer's control panel (check your printer's manual for exact steps).
  2. Alternatively, visit the official HP Support website for your specific LaserJet model, download the latest firmware update tool to your computer, and install it manually by running the tool.
Reset Network Settings on the Printer
If the above steps don't work, resetting the printer's network settings can clear previous configurations and allow for a fresh setup.
  1. On the printer's control panel, navigate to Network settings or Wireless settings.
  2. Select the option to Restore Network Settings or Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. After the reset is complete, use the HP Smart app to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network and try the setup again.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
