The print dialogue in any print situation lacks a choice of selecting color or deselecting grayscale. I am using it via Bluetooth and also USB.

No this did not help. I can't install the HP software because when I try to go to the webpage for HP Smart it returns an error page when attempting to proceed. However, I did find of the Apple site an Apple driver for the printer (USB only, will still not work with Bluetooth) and that solved the problem and allows me to print in color. The driver page is here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US

Hi @gregj777 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer series is not providing the option to print in color, there could be several reasons for this issue.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Printer Settings: Check the printer settings directly on the printer's control panel. Ensure that the printer settings are configured to allow color printing. Navigate through the printer's menu to find the color settings and make sure they are enabled.

Driver Update: Ensure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause printing issues, including the inability to print in color. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest driver for your printer model.  Software and Drivers for HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer series -

Print Preferences: When you initiate a print job from your computer, make sure to check the print preferences or properties dialog box before sending the job to the printer. Look for an option to select color printing or grayscale printing. Depending on your operating system and printer driver, this option might be located in different places. Ensure that color printing is selected if you want to print in color.

Default Settings: Check the default printing settings on your computer. Sometimes, the default setting might be configured to print in grayscale. Change the default setting to color printing if necessary.

Printer Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve the overall performance of the printer.

Bluetooth Connection: If you are printing via Bluetooth, ensure that the connection between your computer and the printer is stable. Sometimes, connectivity issues can prevent the printer from receiving color print commands properly.

USB Connection: If you are printing via USB, try using a different USB cable or connecting the printer to a different USB port on your computer. Faulty cables or ports can sometimes cause communication problems between the computer and the printer.
