Office Jet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I received a 'paper jammed error message' during install from my Office Jet Pro 7740 printer. There was no obvious packing material or debris in the paper feeder mechanism and hence nothing I could spot to remove. The message went away and I assumed all was well however two weeks later tried to feed a document through for copying and it jammed with a loud clicking of the sprockets as the paper would not go through the feeder. Its odd this happened right out of the box. Have I missed something that should have been removed or is something misplaced. Been online watched the install videos and been through the support chat. This is a last attempt before I return it faulty. Any clues on fixing or what the issue is would be gratefully received. Thanks in anticipation.document feeder jam.gif

Hi @CHRISSO

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you get an error message about a jam in the feeder. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Also, perform steps 1 and 2 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
