Office Jet Pro 8600 Premium
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just rebuilt my windows 10 box and when trying to install the latest drivers, it cannot find this network attached printer.  I was able to install and find the network attached Color LaserJet 2600.  I have turned off the windows firewall and have tried the Print Doctor.  The print doctor finds it but again after downloading the driver for the 5th time, the driver software cannot find the printer.  I can ping it, I can browse to it.  I am out of things to try.

PS It did work before I had to re-format and re-install windows 10.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, printer drivers unable to find the printer,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

How are you downloading full feature drivers?

I have a few steps we could try to resolve the issue:

Update Firmware: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/ro-en/document/c02919168

If the issue persists, let's perform root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Thanks for your answer.  I did un-install the printer driver.  The things that made it work were:  I un-installed the driver.  I reset the printer back to factory defaults.  I turned off wi-fi and I only need it to be hard wired Ethernet.  I gave it a static IP address.  I ran the print doctor software, it discovered it and downloaded the drivers, and it is now working.

Thank you for your reply!!
