I have an officejet 6500 wireless printer that has not connected to wifi for a few months now. It will get as far as attempting to connect and then say there is an error. The Wireless Network Test Report page indicates a FAIL at "No Filtering" and suggests turning off MAC address filtering on our router. We have a Comcast xFi modem/router and have never had any trouble with this before. I called Xfinity and they said there is filtering, but nothing that has ever prevented wireless printers from connecting, which makes sense because the printer has connected to Xfinity in the past. Any ideas?? I have tried shutting down and unplugging the printer and hard reset of the router/modem. Thanks!

@ajmc1, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Let us try the following steps:

Step 1: Restart your devices

To prepare your printer for a wireless connection, restart the printer, computer, and router.

  1. Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.

  2. Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.

  3. Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.

  4. Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.

  5. Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the router.

  7. Turn on the computer.

Your printer and network are ready to make a new connection. Continue to the next step.

Step 2: Use the Wireless Setup Wizard to establish a wireless connection between your printer and network.

  1. From the home screen of your printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Setup icon .

  3. Touch Restore Network Defaults or Restore Network Settings, and then touch Yes to confirm your selection.

  4. After the default network settings are restored, touch the back arrow, touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

The printer searches for available networks.

  5. Touch the name of your wireless network.

  6. If your wireless network does not display in the list of wireless networks, touch Enter New Network Name, and then type the name of your wireless network.

  7. Type your network security password (WEP or WPA key), and then touch Done.

If you do not know your network password, go to Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password.

Once the printer is connected, the blue Wireless light (or wireless icon on the menu) stops blinking and remains on.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion! It is giving the same error after I followed those steps. It says that there was an error after I out in the WPA passcode, and the test page says it failed the network filter part. Is there another step I could take?

@ajmc1

Let us try updating the printer firmware. You can follow the steps on this link to do the same.

Once the update is complete, follow the steps from my previous post to connect the printer on the network.

Keep me posted.
