macOS 10.15 Catalina

I can print full color images fine, but when I try printing just text (whether from TextEdit or Microsoft Word applications) it only fully prints every 3rd or 4th line. The rest are either light gray and only partially show up or don't get printed at all. This is uniform from the top to bottom of each page and this issue just arose out of the blue after years of this printer performing perfectly. Have run the Clean Printheads and Align operations a few times and all ink levels are good. Reinstalled HP drivers/software as well, no dice.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that your ink cartridges have sufficient ink. If any of the cartridges are low, consider replacing them.
  • Clean Printheads Manually: While the automated Clean Printheads function is helpful, you can also try manually cleaning the printheads. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's website for specific instructions on how to clean the printheads manually.
  • Print a Diagnostic Page: Most printers have a diagnostic or test page feature. Print a diagnostic page to see if the issue persists. This can help you identify whether the problem is specific to certain colors or nozzles.
  • Update Firmware: Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware if available.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your operating system and printer drivers are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved by updating the software.
  • Paper Quality and Type: Ensure that you are using the correct type and quality of paper recommended for your printer. Using the wrong type of paper can affect print quality.
  • Print in Black and White: Try printing a document in black and white to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem is specific to color printing.
  • Check Print Settings: Verify that your print settings are configured correctly. Make sure that the document settings match the paper type and size you are using.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall the printer drivers completely from your computer, restart the computer, and then reinstall the latest drivers from the official HP website.
