TIA.

All was well using 5 year old netgear wifi. Upgraded to new Netgear AC1900 R7000 smart wifi router, printer will not join the network. Specifically:

The printer sees the SSID, but when the WPA password is entered the printer tries to connect, but fails with error message of "invalid password" or something close to that. Going into the wifi router admin panel I can see the printer on the network, but it has no IP address. Things I have tried:

Reset modem, wifi and printer to factory defaults and set everything up fresh

Made sure all devices have latest driver/firmware installed

Forcing the 2.4 wifi onto a discrete channel instead of auto (several different channels) - unsuccessful

Connecting using the open "Guest" network with no security - sucessful, but I do not want to keep an open network available

Connecting using the "Guest" network WITH security enabled - sucessful-ish, the printer has an IP and shows up on the network but is  "offline" (yes I made sure all devices were on the same network)

Turned off "Access Control" on router admin panel - unsucessful

I've tried every setting on the router I can think of (increasing priority, renaming printer, changed wifi password - all have failed. I know the printer works, using a USB cable all is well, but it refuses to connect through a security enabled wifi network. I believe the issue is with the printer, as all other 15 devices in my house readily connect.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Appreciate all your time and efforts.

If you are using a wireless router, check your router's documentation or support site to make sure it meets the following requirements:

Check the router band: Many routers can operate in both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands. Make sure the 2.4 GHz router band is enabled and broadcasting. If the router broadcasts separate network names (SSIDs) for each band, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz band SSID.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Update the firmware using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-6500a-e-all-in-one-printer-series-e710/4083974/mod...

Restart the printer.

Then, reset the printer's network settings

1. Touch Network, touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.

2. Touch Reports, and then select Print Network Configuration Page to print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset

Now try connecting the printer to the network.

Keep me posted, how it goes!
