OfficeJet 6700 Premium
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

OfficeJet 6700 Premium prints smeared pages and control characters when printing a Yahoo Mail. Word documents are okay. Reloaded all FW/drivers and ran both HP diagnostic programs. When printing what should be a single page email, multiple pages print. The first two smeared, the rest (7 to 😎 with a line or two of control characters. Printer is run through my network Wi-Fi systems. IT DID NOT DO THIS PRIOR TO THE LAST Windows 10 update A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and run printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

Update the printer firmware using the below link:

Restart the printer.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor is open, click Start, and then choose your printer.
    • If your printer is not listed, turn it on and click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in the tool.
  4. Depending on the problem, click either Fix Printing or Fix Scanning.
  5. Test results are displayed with icons:

A checkmark means your printer passed.

A wrench means a problem was found and fixed.

An exclamation mark means a test failed and was skipped.

An X means the printer has a problem. Follow the instructions to fix it.

  6. HP Print and Scan Doctor shortcut is installed on your desktop.

Try to print.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Unfortunately, the issue still persists. I have not been able to use my printer for almost two weeks. I downloaded the printer S/W. However, the HP loader would not allow it to be loaded. the system said that the F/W in the printer was already up-to-date. It actually grayed out the loading bar. The HP Print and Scan Doctor ran and re-downloaded the regular driver F/W and I reinstalled it. I keep getting the pop up box "There is a problem communicating with the printer". This is really getting to be an issue.

Thank you for the response. This seems like an application-specific issue.

Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Also, try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If the printer was working fine before the Windows update, you may try restoring the PC to a previous date when it was working fine.

To know how to perform a system restore, refer to this document.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

based on your email, I tried to fix this by elimination. I took the same exact documents I have on my main computer and moved them to my lap top. These print fine. To be clear, same printer (OJ 6700 premium) and same wireless network. I tried something you asked - I printed out a single sheet PDF file. It worked. However, I have noticed that this issue was intermittent. I have seen some documents work and some that don't. I then tried to print a Word file. Same issue - blurred print. Then I printed another PDF and all it was is control characters. I will say this - in between printing the two PDF's, I did get a Windows update. I will also tell you that after that update, I would get a Windows message that the printer could not print the page (both PDF and Word), but after 30 + seconds, it did print. Finally, printing from the lap top (Windows 8 with no recent updates) works like it always has - hit the Print button and 5 seconds later you get a printed document. For the computer with the issue, you hit Print (Word, PDF, etc.) and it takes 30 + seconds to happen; with or without a warning message. it never used to be like this. It seems to me there's some interaction between the printer program and the spooler. This "printing lag" has only started since the Windows 10 update.
