HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I did find a post with steps to go through a semi-full reset.  My problem is, I cannot move past the blue screen.  My laptop no longer sees the printer.  I have unplugged (turning it off is not an option evidently) it and let it sit for hours to plug it back in and immediately get the blue screen.  It worked fine until 7/14/2024 when an "event" happened.  Judging from the info I didn't share with the system update, it came from my previous laptop.

So how do I get past the blue screen and reset the darn thing???

Unless I'm mistaken the blue screen is on the printer console display and occurs when you turn the printer on.

I'm guessing the printer never really starts up.   This is a serious hardware problem.

If the printer firmware got corrupted by some event (power surge, etc) then possibly a reset may work but that is a guess

Factory reset video here

Try resetting, there appear to be two ways and a third is secret it seems.

I think this is the secret menu reset.

Sadly, I can't see the secret note.  Also, I've connected via ethernet cable my laptop and the printer.  I cannot access anything on the printer screen.  The IP address fails every time.  Which was a new option for me at this point.

I was able for a brief moment yesterday to see the screen.  That was before i knew about the reset with special cues.  Now i can't reproduce that.  😞

I think you mean you have cables from the printer to the modem and from the printer to the modem.

In any event, the the printer console display is blank (blue?) then It is useless.

I was finally able to get through the printer screens to perform the semi-full resets.  When I powered back on, BSOD.  To fully deplete the power i removed the ink cartridges, which caused it to not like that.

Previously I meant i was able to see the video's on youtube, but they weren't anything i hadn't done before.

So not sure which way to go now.

I do appreciate all your time and help.  😄

Out of the "blue" <-yes, purposeful, the printer came alive this morning.  I have reset everything and turned off automatic updates!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Phew  😄

Automatic updates should only affect your PC. The only way a printer would be affected is if a firmware update was requested in the update failed as far as I know printer updates has to be initiated manually by the user after being notified by the HP Support Assistant.

Which of the factor resets help clear the blue screen on the printer?  That would be useful to know for other 7740 owners.

I am glad you got it working.  Unlike a PC, a printers not only has to have access to the internet  through the router, it has to have a network connection that allows a PC to go to the router and then come back to the printer..
