OfficeJet 7740

My OfficeJet 7740 was working fine. I recently replaces the cartridges for new, original cartridges and it was working fine. It now insists that the cartridges are empty but they are not. I've tried all of these steps without success:

1. cleaned the cartridge contacts with alcohol

2. cleaned the printer contacts with alcohol

3. turned off the printer while it was on, pressed the ON/OFF button for 15 seconds, reconnected it

4. checked for driver updates

5. reset factory settings on the printer

Anything else I can try? The cartridges are about 4 months old and I've used them less than 5 times.

Hi @jjuuaann,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

You’ve done an excellent job of diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well.  Kudos to you on that score.

Resolve a low-ink message or alert

When a low ink message displays, you can continue printing until the print quality is unacceptable. HP recommends having replacement cartridges available to avoid printing delays.

NOTE:

If the cartridge has been refilled or remanufactured, an Ink Alert or Low on Ink message may be inaccurate or displayed incorrectly.

Select OK on the printer control panel, computer, or HP Smart app to close the message and continue printing.

Check the ink level indicators on the printer or in the HP Smart app to see which ink cartridges are low.

NOTE:

Ink-level warnings and indicators provide estimates only.

Order a replacement cartridge if you do not have one on hand.

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

If the message continues to display after replacing the low cartridge with a new, genuine HP cartridge, Contact HP Customer Support.

For more information about cartridge yields and ink use, go to About Original HP Cartridges.

You may also refer to this document for further assistance on print quality issues.

If the above steps do not work, then the printer needs to be checked or the cartridge is faulty.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
