I received an unused HP Officejet 8702. The setup cartridges were not included.

I have cartridges but the printer is stuck on "Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer" message.

How do I bypass this message?

Hi @QuestionRePrint ,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

To bypass the message on the printer the only option left is to perform an OOBE reset and re-initialize the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Got it.  I followed your instructions.

Now I'm at a Non-HP Chip Detected error.  I've been using non-hp ink.  But, then when I updated the firmware the non-hp cartridges stopped working.  I get that HP recommends to not use non-hp ink cartridges.  That's a different position than HP has created an environment where non-hp ink simply won't work.  Recommending and mandating are not one in the same.  What has occurred in my opinion seems to be a little deceptive - HP slipped in a setting to weed out competition in the ink arena.  I, along with many other users, want to disable the cartridge protection that is creating this non-hp chip detected.  Basically, what HP has done is forced people to use HP ink.  This either forces people to just get rid of the printer (creating waste) or it enriches HP by forcing customers to buy HP ink.  What HP has done here is worse than what Microsoft did with internet explorer by forcing out other competition.  Please provide a solution to this newly created non-hp chip detected.

Either (1) provide a way to downgrade the firmware; or (2) provide a way to disable the cartridge protection.
