I have the same problem as others, Printhead error. I have owned the printer for less then two years but don't print a lot of pages. This is my fifth HP printer, I have always been satisified with HP printers in the past. I currently also use a HP envy printer in our Florida home.
I have only used HP print cartridges in this printer, no after market. I know the 1year warranty has expired, but I feel this is a design error by HP and further that HP should extend the warranty on this product. If I don't hear from HP I will be shopping for a replacement printer, non-HP.

Hello kyHarold,
You're correct about many others with this same problem. FYI. I find there is an ongoing (secret) recall on 6830 printers. http://www.thebassbarn.com/forum/12-dry-dock/710113-hp-office-jet-all-one-recall.html
You need to contact HP directly. This and other HP printers have long histories of defects (read some of the below links). So, you should Establish a Case to get a replacement, possibly even out of warranty. You could try some repairs first; if interested I will follow with another reply.
Create yourself a Case Number first with the following link. Then, then call and it may help speed up the call process (info provided by Expert Moderator Jeet_Singh):
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.
That number is HP support 1-800 474 6836 (Expect to be put on hold as a delay tactic) Have Serial Number handy, which is on label on the back or where the ink cartridges are.

The Greek Guru has lots of good info in this link (notice some comments as recent as 2 days ago).

The Guru says: What to do if you are facing this issue ???
If you are Using HP Officejet pro 6830, 6835, 6812, 6815 & 6810, Don't waste your time, go ahead and Contact HP, as they will replace the printer for you and it doesn't matter whether you printer is under warranty or not. (HP: 1-800 474 6836 ).

If interested in trying to troubleshoot, please provide some information. Are you enrolled in Instant Ink? Had you replaced cartridges when this happened. Do you leave the printer idle long enough (1-2 months) that the ink nozzles dry/clog; if the printer can’t sense the print head, it sends an error message. Because you are not printing a lot, maybe buying a smaller printer would be in order. In any case run a diagnostic page periodically to refresh ink.
Try cleaning the ink cartridges. Does the 6830 front display have a Clean Printhead command. Also use the Clean Cartridge command.
Updating the printer's software on your computer may help. With the printer turned on, go to 123.HP.com and it will automatically id your computer and download/install the MOST RECENT software.

Note the 6830 Printhead is not removable. Technical instructions on cleaning the Print Head of 6830; but only for the fair-at-heart and if mechanically inclined! Take photos of how the parts fit prior to moving them. What this does is clean the bottom where ink comes out the Print Head. http://technicalinstructions.blogspot.com/2016/01/how-to-fix-there-is-problem-with.html

You have the right idea. Best of luck.
It sounds like getting the "Case" is just a ripoff. It appears the 6830 is a dog. Unfortunately, HP doesn't care. I also think HP has code written into the computer software to disable functions after warranty ends. My Envy 5660 is working so far, but it's only a couple months old.

I am right behind you. HP sent this 6830 printer to replace another that suffered printerhead failure. Seems they have a design flaw that they do not intend to resolve. My solution, like yours, will be to go to another printer compamy.
