This HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 claims to be able to print up to 110lb cartstock (according to official HP specs), but I am having nothing but trouble doing so. It seems to start printing halfway down the page and mangles the back of the paper with streaks. It's eaten so many sheets of paper as I try to fiddle with:

settings, paper feeding, printing on plain paper (works just fine so it's not the document), and pretty much everything I can think of.

This printer has honestly been nothing but trouble, and I'm about to give up and ask HP for a refund and to take this thing back. Nothing it claims to do actually works, but this is particularly infuriating as it's so clear in the specs.

Has anyone seen any success actually printing on 110lb cardstock? (letter size paper)

Hi @robobin

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Yes, this model printer supports printing on a 110lb cardstock paper. Have you tried printing on a regular US letter size paper and check if it prints fine?

Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Check the print settings on the app you are using to print.

Refer to this document to know how to change the print settings and select the correct paper type and paper size before printing on a MAC

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
