We have been using the printer without any problems on the same wireless network for several years. However, when I tried to print yesterday there was no internet connection. The wireless setup can see our network but does not connect after I type in the password. The test results say that PASS for wireless on and working but in bold under the settings results it says No Filtering FAIL. The blue light is blinking on the front of printer. No other computers or tablets or phones are having wifi issues. Additionally, at the top of the results page it says: "More than one access point/wireless router has been found that matchs your wireless network name (SSID)...." It says more, but I am still confused because there is no other router with that name. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

@hilandave

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Printer not connecting to the WiFi anymore due to the error-"No Filtering FAIL",

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you recently updated or upgraded your printer driver or firmware?

Did you perform a hard reset or restore the network defaults on your printer to attempt a fix?

While you respond to that, here's a few things you can attempt:

For starters, On the front of the printer, touch the Wireless button and navigate to Restore Wireless Defaults.

Restart your router by pulling its power plug momentarily, then try again.

if the issue persists, Click here & perform steps 10 & 11.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for your response. I have not done anything new to my printer. No updates or upgrades. Based on other threads on this site, I restored the wireless defaults on the wireless set up button on the printer. Everything else that is hooked up to the same network is working fine. Do I still need to restart the router? The printer recognizes our wifi network and the password is correct, but then it can't actually connect. At the top of the test results page, it says "More than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name (SSID)." What does that mean? Thank you!

@hilandave

Thank you for replying with this overwhelming and detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

If more than one access point detected message appears,

Here are some suggestions to fix the issue:

1. Do not use WEP - use WPA or WPA2 with a strong 13+ character password.

2. Enable SSID broadcast on all APs

3. Do no use MAC address filtering

4. Make sure 'AP isolation' or 'wireless isolation' is disabled.

5. Make sure you are not on a VPN nor logged onto your guest network.

6. If different channels on the APs do not work, try the same channel.

And to answer your questions: yes, you need to restart the router to complete the setup with the printer.

The information you provided below/in response to hilanddave's second comment would be useful for someone with a tech or networking background, but not for your average printer user I am afraid...

I am having the same problem as @hilanddave... except we are in an office with 35 agents and cannot restart a router 1- because all agents would lose connectivity temporarily and 2- the router is in a room with about 40 other boxes and 100 other cords. Can you please advise in lamens terms a work around for the issue of "no filtering fail"?

And if we updated Windows on the computer that uses this specific 8600 printer and now there is a problem, what would that solution be?

Thank you!

Not that technical but I had the same problem and suspected that the printer might be getting confused by a network extender we added (we use Verizon FIOS and added a router to extend the main network with the same name).  While no other devices seem to be confused by this extender, I unplugged it and the printer connected fine.   This has to be a new bug as it has been working fine with the extender for 6 months or more.

Hello, have their been any updates to this issue?

My 8620 stopped working at the same time, and still doesn't work. I have found that mine won't even try connecting with WPA2 anymore.

Juding by other threads with people who have the same issue, and the extensive troubleshooting I have done, this appears to be an HP issue.

I fully understand the steps above as I am a network engineer, and quite honeslty, they are all basic. Every user, including myself, states that this began without any changes to the environment other than the printer self updating. This is not our network issue, but an HP printer issue.

Has anyone figured out a solution yet?

Edit: Could not wait for HP's games for an answer. Here is a thread with the answer:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/HP-8620-unable-to-connect-to-WiFi-network/td-p/6837623

Edit: [edit] To fix the issue, disable 802.11r and it will work. HP botched the code in a previous firmware update on this printer.

looks like an HP issue.

So

A: they really ef'ed up and better fix the issue ASAP

B: they did this because many people are going to run out a just buy a new printer

I am going to to the latter...just never an HP printer again...ever

Got it working!

I found an old HP post saying:

"Sometimes the strangest thing happens, filtering is off but yet it blocks the printer as if it were on, in this cause we need to turn filtering on, add the printer hardware address as an allowable device, and then turn the filtering back off."

So to fix:

1. Let your printer to print out the network test results which will list your HP printer's MAC address.

2. Log into your router by typing into your browser (while connected to that same router via wifi): 192.168.1.1

3. Go into advanced settings and turn on MAC filtering for the 2.4G connection and save

As soon as I turned it on, the print job in the queue started printing!

Then you can turn MAC filtering back off on your router if you like, and it should keep working.

If that didn't fix it, it may also be an issue with WPA2.  I would go under Wireless Setup Wizard, scroll down and select Restore Network Settings.  Then do the following:

1. Select Wireless Setup Wizard

2. Select Continue
3. Instead of selecting your network name (even if it is listed), scroll down to: "Enter new network name"
4. Enter your network name exactly as it apears on the list.
5. Enter the WPA2 password (even though it says to enter your WPA password)
6. Should succesfully connect.

Good luck!  I was about to go Office Space PC Load Letter on this POS if I didn't try turning on & off MAC filtering.  😉

There is no steps 10 & 11 only 1 & 2
