I have the same issue. Did all the troubleshooting steps, have two macs. The one with 10.4 can't see the printer at all, unless connected directly via LAN. if connected to router then by wifi over network, can't see it. Yet my other mac with 10.3 can see it. so likely some kind of bug or incompatibility in 10.4 and/or the HP driver. laserjet pro 1606dn 2012 vintage.

Ok I found the cause and fixed the issue. My mac was connected to a local area xfinity wifi, not to my own gateway, to which the printer was connected. Once I switched my wifi to the gateway, I could print. Issue resolved.

You should still fix the mac version of the firmware updater - the app doesn't open on 10.4 or 10.3.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand you need support and I'll be glad to help you out. However, for an accurate solution, I would need more details:

Are you using an Officejet 8610 or a laserjet pro 1606dn?

What all troubleshooting steps have you tried it till now?

Let me know!

Hi Senan, thanks for replying to my post. Confirming I'm using an HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn. So far I've tried:

  • Rebooting the Mac (doesn't fix)
  • Rebooting the wifi gateway/router (doesn't fix)
  • Rebooting the printer (doesn't fix)
  • Updating the printer firmware (failed to update as the updater won't run on 10.4 nor 10.3. also not sure if there is a firmware update for this 2012 vintage printer)
  • Direct LAN connect printer to Mac (I can print - but the use case here is AirPrint so doesn't fix)
  • Print from another mac on 10.3 over the wifi (I can print - but I want to print on my main mac with 10.4)
  • Download the HP mac printer drivers (doesn't fix)
  • Download the Apple printer driver manual thing (doesn't fix)
  • Delete and re-add printer (doesn't fix - 10.4 mac can't see printer over the network so can't add it)
  • Reset Mac printing system (doesn't fix still don't see the printer so can't add it

Thanks! As per the printer specifications available here, HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn has to be connected to the wireless router using an ethernet cable. Is the printer connected to the router as described in the image below:

Connect the Ethernet cable to the printer and to the router, switch, or hub

Once the printer is connected to the router, connect your Mac PC to your home wireless network and then try to add the printer using the steps available here

Keep me posted!

The printer is connected as described, but the Mac doesn't see it at all after the 10.4 upgrade. I am not able to add the printer according to the instructions because it never shows up to be added.

Could you print a configuration page and send us an image of the page. In order to print the page:

1.) Make sure that the Ready light () is on and that the product is idle and silent.

2.) Press and hold the Go button (), and release it when the Ready light () begins blinking. The Configuration page prints.

in addition to printing this status sheet I also tried to connect to the printer directly via IP address, since this sheet has the IP. I could add the printer but it still didn't work.

I also updated the printer firmware to 2015 from 2012. I couldn't do it on the mac (per my previous post) because the firmware updater for mac doesn't work. I updated it on a windows 7 laptop. the newer firmware doesn't fix the issue; I still can't see the printer from the Mac with Mojave.IMG_3450.jpeg

The printer also works fine from windows 7. Here is the test page.IMG_3451.jpeg
